IRTRA Parks

A couple of weekends back we made a trip with friends out to the IRTRA resort near Retalhuleu, which includes a water park (Xocomil) and amusement park (Xetulul). Leaving on a Friday afternoon, it is about a 3 to 3.5 hour drive depending on traffic. I wasn’t totally sure what to expect, but I ended up completely impressed with the parks and the resort. We’d even go back and just stay at the resort as there are also tons of nice pools, mini-golf, a spa and multiple restaurants.

One of DiploTot’s favorite things from the weekend was the peacocks, which quickly came to be called peetas and whenever we were walking on the resort, she was on the lookout for them.

Xocomil had a ton of great slides, again I was totally impressed.

Late Saturday afternoon we went to check out Xetulul. This was the place to see and be seen for the locals. There were tons of families out and all the requisite teenagers dressed up and looking to meets girls and boys. The entire park is themed to different countries and had an impressive number of rides.

DiploMom had seen a ton of photos from applicants for immigrant visas in front of the Trevi Fountain and what do you know, we finally discovered it.

It was a great weekend. The best part of driving back on Sunday is that we were on the road during the World Cup final. Getting back into Guatemala City was a breeze and only took 2.5 hours, and hour less than on Friday.

DiploTot headed off to preschool this past week. We’re initially starting at a couple of days a week and so far, so good. Here she is on her first day before heading out.

The bow actually managed to stay in her hair the entire morning. She is enjoying the school so far and was quite pleased when we returned for the second day – waving and say ‘bye’ as we pulled up. We’re thrilled with how things have started and are anxious to see how things continue to progress.

DiploDog had a few friends staying with us over the weekend – Brunky the cockapoo and Cindy the toy poodle. It was Brunky’s first visit and Cindy’s second.

Happy Independence Day

Last year we celebrated with DiploMom’s A-100 class out in Rock Creek Park and this year, here we are in Guatemala City. We had a great afternoon at the residence, enjoying burgers and hot dogs cooked up by the Marines and relishing the pleasant, breezy day with temps in the 70s.

This expression is in no way indicative of the amount of fun DiploTot had in the bounce house. I don’t know how she kept going, but she got a lot of bouncing in.
